Fertility Specialist Appointment 15 November

Two days ago I went for my very first appointment with my Fertility Specialist. I was very nervous the whole week before i went, but it turned out to be quite fine. I did however realise how much time i wasted with my gynae that (now i realise) doesn't know much about fertility, but pretended to know a lot.

Dr Volschenk (the fertility specialist) confirmed that i do have poly cystic ovary syndrome and that i do not ovulate on a regular basis. This makes conception extremely difficult, as even a healthy couple only has a 20% chance of conceiving each month.

I did blood tests on the first day and a post coital test on the second day, to see if I have a hostile environment for the swimmers, which turned out really good. My ph is very good and all the swimmers survived. What an amazing experience to see them on a screen in real life as clear as daylight! I almost cried... you cant deny God's existence after seeing something like that! Dr V also said that it isn't necessary to do a laparoscopy (where they make a cut at my abdomen to see if i have endometriosis) because if my ph is good, it is highly unlikely to be endometriosis. I am very glad about that one, because I hate to do un-necessary operations! DrV said the swimmers are as fit as a bull (which made Johan smile from ear to ear) and that there are A LOT of them :)

So for now, i have to wait another 2 weeks, then more tests will follow. They will do some more blood tests, and also a test to see if my tubes are open for the swimmers to get through.

Hope you're all doing well and have a great end of 2010!
